Week 2 started yesterday. Yesterday the trim work started -- we came home to find new 6-panel doors (10 in all!) and a living room that had been taped/floated. They also touched up a ton of spots of sheetrock where the tape had come up and/or the walls were cracked. It looks awesome but it also means that we have a TON of painting to do. We will have to repaint the entry hallway and the entire living room, all of the doors, all of the trim pieces/frames of the doors, crown molding in 3 rooms, the wainscot in the dining room...not to mention that we will be painting the baseboards in all of the rooms because the previous owners apparently did not like white and painted everything an ugly pinkish/yellowish shade of white. Oh yeah...and we get to touch up paint in every room due to the touching up of sheetrock in various rooms. I am NOT looking forward to painting all of this. It would be hard enough if it were just the 2 of us...but we have Bella now and I'm not sure how we are supposed to get all of this painted, and take care of her...oh yeah, and have it done in time for her birthday party on August 1st. CALGON TAKE ME AWAY!!!
So yeah...we had some progress yesterday, but also some issues. Highlights of yesterday include:
- Coming home to find cigarrette butts all over our yard from the workers (just found out they aren't supposed to be smoking while at the job site!)
- Coming home to find wires that go to our alarm system hanging from the door frames...and our alarm can't be set. I feel REAL safe in our house...oh yeah, and WE get to pay to have Brinks come out and fix the problem!
- Coming home to find that the workers drove their van over our brand new grass...and also ran over a sprinkler head (get to see if it's broken tonight)
- Coming home to find nine old doors propped up against the side of our house...and our old back door just hanging out in our backyard. Sure the neighbors LOVE this...
- The workers have apparently hidden my broom...they left the kitchen a wreck and I can't even sweep up the mess because the broom has gone MIA
- MOSQUITOS! Since the workers are coming in/out of the house all day long, that means the door(s) is left open a lot...and we now have a nice lil' family o' mosquitos living at Casa de Aguilar.
I know renovations are supposed to be a nightmare, but the novelty of this has worn off. I'm sick of coming home to a filthy house. Tired of having to spend my evenings either sitting on a barstool or sitting on my bed. Irritated that Bella can't play in the living room because our furniture is under a drop cloth and there is construction debris on the floor. I just want our life (and house!) back.
