Progress!

I love coming home and finding that progress has been made. We've had small progress every day this week (amazing, huh?!) but a lot of it is minor stuff that isn't that noticeable. However, yesterday we came home to brand new lights in the kitchen. EXCITING!! Why is it so exciting, you ask? Because we had one...count it, ONE...light in our kitchen...until yesterday. The lighting pre-construction was just downright awful. Not only was it an ugly light fixture, but it wasn't very bright and thus the kitchen wasn't a place you wanted to spend a lot of time in. But as of yesterday, we have six recessed lights in our kitchen. Now the kitchen is bright and cheerful! We'll also be getting a light in our pantry that turns on/off when the door is opened/closed. This won't go in until the pantry door is replaced since the switch will be placed in the door jam.

Our new lights:

(the framing you see will be sheetrocked today)

We also came home to find progress in the master shower. The new vent fan was wired and the ceiling has been raised. Insulation has been put in and the shower pan has been installed. They were able to center the drain in the shower and raise the showerhead to a height that will allow Sean to shower in here (pre-construction, the showerhead was at about 5 1/2'! Munchkins must have showered in there!) Here is a picture of the shower so far:

Today we should come home to find our living room sheetrocked. At least our living room will start to look somewhat normal and we can put our blinds back up on the windows so we don't feel completely exposed. LOL! Trimwork will happen sometime next week (baseboards, doors, framing, crown molding, wainscoting). Sean is setting up a meeting with the tile guru which hopefully means tile work will begin sometime soon.

It's all coming together a lot faster than I had anticipated. I know we'll hit a stalling point sometime soon -- most likely when it comes time to tile the master shower. Of course, after the master shower is done, we'll move onto the guest bathroom which will mean taking that one out of commission for a few weeks (which also means MORE DUST)!

Just ready for it to be done and over with. Hard to live in a house, with a baby, while renovating. To make matters a bit more difficult, Bella was sick this week (104.3 fever on Wednesday - YIKES - turns out she has a virus which caused white puss pockets on her tonsils), so we've had to keep her at my mom's since she can't go to school and we can't keep her in the house with workers coming in and out. A juggling act, for sure!

Will update with progress pics from today this weekend.

Cheers!
